Public Office Meeting

Watch the board meeting and answer the questions.

 This assignment is designed to provide you with the opportunity to experience the policy making process in person and obtain a deeper understanding of the procedures followed to establish policy at the local level. Attend a local public meeting and summarize responses to the questions below. The written summary should be 2-3 pages in length (not including the cover page). Examples of public office meetings include City council meetings, County Board of Supervisor meetings, and School Board meetings.

1. Which elected officials were in attendance?
2. Describe three common themes (preferably around social problems) that the public expressed during the public comments portion of the agenda. What are your thoughts on these issues?
3. Describe the format of the meeting. What are your thoughts on the format?
4. What items were voted on by the council/board during the meeting? What were the outcomes for each item?
5. How was research utilized to inform the discussion? If it was not discussed, how could research be used to inform the discussion?
6. Were there any controversial items on the agenda (e.g., cannabis businesses, etc.)? If so, how much overall support did the item receive amongst the constituents in attendance and amongst the council/board?
7. During the board/council member comments portion of the agenda, what social issues or problems were mentioned and by whom?
8. Reflect on your overall impressions of this experience.

Introduction

Energy policies help shape the energy sector. Economic, political, environmental, and social factors influence their construction, implementation, and enforcement. As these policies change over time, they create varying degrees of incentives for the advancement of technology in the areas of energy production, transmission, and consumption. As such, to understand energy utilization you must not only understand energy policies, but also the factors that influence them and the results they produce. The goal of the Energy Policy Paper is to analyze how a given energy policy relates to energy utilization, both regionally and nationally.

This paper accounts for 40% of your course grade and consists of four cumulative assignments:

Policy Selection

Begin your paper by selecting and researching an existing US energy policy. Examples include the Energy Independence and Security Act, the Federal Energy Management Program’s (FEMP) Energy Incentive Program, the Clean Air Act, etc. Then write a 400- to 600-word essay that addresses the following:

1. Describe your selected policy and why the policy was enacted.

1. Explain how well the policy has produced its desired outcome.

1. Discuss its impact on associated technology.

1. Describe any seemingly unintentional consequences that have accompanied its implementation.

Strictly adhere to the 400- to 600-word limit (not including the Title and References Page(s)), follow APA guidelines, and support your work using a minimum of  three reputable sources (your textbook may be used as one of the sources).

Compose your work in a .doc or .docx file type using a word processor (such as Microsoft Word, etc.) and save it frequently to your computer. For those assignments that are not written essays and require uploading images or PowerPoint slides, please follow uploading guidelines provided by your instructor.

• Create and describe a specific scenario that demonstrates how a social worker would uphold that value when working with a client.

 For this Discussion, you and your colleagues consider how social work values are demonstrated in social work practice. Consider different scenarios you may experience during your career and how ethical standards may influence your response. 

Submit a 2- to 3-page reflection in which you:

· Identify a time when you were extremely upset or angry. Explain the circumstances and who was involved in the situation.

· Reflect on why this situation upset you. Have you been angry over a similar situation before?

· Identify the values in this scenario, and reflect on how this example represents or doesn’t represent who you are as a person.

· Reflect on how you could have viewed this scenario differently and not become angry.
