Chapter 9 of your textbook identifies eight correctional officer personalities. These include:

1. The dictator.
2. The friend.
3. The merchant.
4. The turnkey.
5. The climber.
6. The reformer.
7. The do-gooder.
8. The problem correctional officer (Schmalleger. 2021).

For the purpose of this discussion post, you are to imagine yourself as a correctional officer.

Please respond to the following in a substantive post:

• Which of these correctional officer personalities do you think best describes the role you would assume on the job? How so?
  • If none of these personalities applies to you, what personality would best describe you if you were serving as a correctional officer?
• What strengths would your personality type bring to the job?
  • Be sure to provide specifics.
• How could your personality type hinder your effectiveness as a correctional officer?

• How could you counterbalance some of these hindrances?

Week 4

Concentric Zone Theory

Park and Burgess used Concentric Zone Theory to break up the city of Chicago into five zones. They used the theory to explain why crime occurs in each zone. Although this was created and applied to the city of Chicago, in this assignment, you will apply this theory to your city (you can use your city or a neighboring city).

Create a presentation of 5 to 7 slides in Microsoft PowerPoint and address the following:

Where is the crime occurring in your selected city? Include specific examples using crime mapping of your selected city, characteristics of housing within each zone, and types of crimes occurring.

How would you aim at reducing these incidents of crime? Include information and specific recommendations.

How does Concentric Zone Theory apply to your selected city?

Week 2 

Comparing Criminal Justice Systems

The cases of Amanda Knox and Michael Fay offer good opportunities to compare criminal justice systems. Both were young US citizens accused of crimes in other countries. These cases illustrated the differences between the US criminal justice system and those of other nations.

Consider such factors as pretrial release, burden of proof, right to appeal, and type of punishment. Prepare a report in a 4- to 5-page Microsoft Word document responding to the following questions:

• What were the alleged crimes involved? Summarize both the cases.
• Did the court system use an adversarial or inquisitorial method? Explain.
• What were the final outcomes of the cases? Provide a legal ground for the outcome and justify your answer with appropriate research and reasoning.
• In what ways did the process differ from how it would have occurred in the United States?
• In what ways was the process similar to that in the United States? Explain with proper reasoning.

Support your responses with examples.

Cite any sources in APA format.

Research 1

You are to write a paper examining a topic regarding pharmacology research.  The research may be basic science, translational, clinical, or a combination.  Your paper should include references to empirical data and should not simply be a review of current clinical use, mechanism of action, or past history of a drug or class of drugs.  You  MUST write on one of the paper topics below.

Your goal is to demonstrate that you have a working understanding of the pharmacological information presented in this course and that you are able to apply that understanding to new material.

Success in communicating scientific knowledge is dependent on not only the quality of the scientific content, but also your ability to coherently put your thoughts into words and the technical aspects of spelling and grammar.  With this in mind, your grade will be based on all of these aspects.  With that said, scientific writing should be succinct and to the point.  It should not be flowery and verbose.  Your goal is to make sure your writing style does not detract from the effectiveness of the paper.  Write something that conveys your message, doesn’t have obvious grammatical mistakes, doesn’t have typos, and isn’t overtly clunky, and you should receive full points for your writing style.
