1241

This week you will find cities that make headlines.  Your work this week is for you to explore the significance of culture, conflict, and sustainability in our most populous places. This week you should think of cities as places that tell the tale of human history, cultural expression or the human struggle.   Find the cities that are experiencing change and help tell their story.  You will use you knowledge about what shapes the history of human experience in cities to illuminate the role of the built environment and public policy in the news. Use what we have learned this semester to help you see a social situation differently.

This semester you have become more attuned to the impact of urban places on human experience.  For this assignment, put your knowledge to work.  Think of news stories in a new light.  Think about the news with a sense of urban development and human experience.

Requirements:

1. Describe the news story.  What is the story about?  Where does it take place?  Who reported it?

2. Explain how the story relates to human experiences in urban places.  Describe the influence of the built environment and how it makes an impact on human rights and the human experience.

3. Be as specific and descriptive as possible.  Remember, the influence does not happen in a vacuum.  What are the forces and influences that caused the impact.  Are they social, political, etc?

4. Explain and cite actual lesson materials that helped you recognize and articulate the role of the built environment and its influence on human rights and equality in the news story.

IT190 Discussion 8 – Consider the technology

IT 190 Dis 8

Consider the technology needs for a small mom and pop retail store. There would likely be more than one computer in use to manage custom transactions and payments, accounts, inventory, and customer information.

Information is the life of a business in today’s digital world. The computer’s network and information need to be protected in case of a security threat or loss of data.

What type of additional hardware and software should be in use, and how will it protect computers and data?

Function Discussion – In the real world, functions are mathematical

Function

Discussion

In the real world, functions are mathematical representations of input-output situations.

A vending machine is one such example. The input is the money combined with the

selected button. The output is the product.

Here is another example: The formula for converting a temperature from Fahrenheit to

Celsius is a function expressed as:

C = (5/9)*(F – 32), where F is the Fahrenheit temperature and C is the Celsius temperature.

If it is 77 degrees Fahrenheit in Phoenix Arizona, then what is the equivalent temperature

on the Celsius thermometer?

Our input is 77.

C = (5/9)*(77 – 32)

C = (5/9)*(45)

C = 25

The equivalent temperature is 25 degrees Celsius.
